The Coolest Way To Welcome The New Year In

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

This mom was past her estimated due date. It never dawned on either of us that she could have a New Year’s baby. I arrived to meet her in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot in Bamberg where she spent time walking to get to the hospital with her by 10:00pm. There was a riotous group of people outside the emergency room for a gunshot victim that had been brought in. That explains the police cars.

  • Baby girl, Johnalyn Laurel
  • 1.1.08, 2:22am
  • 8 lbs, 4 oz and 21.5 inches.

Mind you - there is no epidural available at this hospital. Good going, mom! I also noticed a similarity between me & Jody - laughter when in pain! But, this whole family was just so funny and in good spirits the whole sleepless night! I chose the leading verse in the slideshow because that is what was on my mind the entire time I spent editing their images.

Beautiful family! For those that do not know, this is her 5th beautiful child. Her 3rd child and my 4th child were born 1 day apart and will be 4 years old in just over a week! Here are a few images for a sneak peek. The slideshow is below.

Is a birth documentary right for you or someone you know?

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

Welcome to readers visiting from our ad in the Augusta Family Magazine’s October baby issue! Thank you for taking the time out to visit my blog. You can use the register link on the right if you’d like to sign up for email notifications of new posts. That is optional, but encouraged.

Please email me to learn more about what is available for babies born in 2008. Portfolio opportunities listed below will change in 2008.

I personally believe that you will know whether or not you would be comfortable with birth photography. If after viewing samples below, you believe that you may be interested, let me know via email. I can book up to 3 births per month currently, so you will want to book as soon as you are sure. Paid births are not required to sign a release to share images. Signatures would be voluntary before or after the birth. Privacy can be maintained. I do ask that both the mom-to-be and the dad-to-be make sure they are comfortable with the presence of me and my camera in your delivery room. In a few cases, I may consider only photographing after the delivery, but that is not ideal or the full birth story. It will also depend on hospital policies.

I’m very excited to be taking my niche to the public. This is absolutely a service I LOVE to provide! A sample album is available to view at a free consultation.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

TWIN BOYS!

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

I am just beside myself with excitement. I got to photograph a family having twins on Tuesday. They are a super couple with a great family! I was impressed by everyone there.

I received the phone call from dad around 8:30am. I took my 3 year old to my friend’s house for the day. (Thank you so much for helping out, Janet!). I believe I arrived in the hospital parking deck by 9:30am. My first photo timestamp was ~9:36am. My last photo timestamp inside the hospital was ~9:57pm. I did take a photo of the front of the hospital at the end of the driveway loop at ~10:31pm. (I was talking to some nurses on my way out.)

The twin boys were born by c-section at 7:15pm and 7:17pm. I was hunting a clock at that time. I had NO idea what was going on in the OR while waiting for them outside the OR doors. I think it is so special that I photographed the clock we finally found at 7:18pm! I need to trust my instincts a lot more, huh? I had no clue, seriously!
